Frequently Asked Questions

Q
A
What type of timber is used?
The timber used for the deck boards and the subframes is Baltic Spruce and is sourced from managed forests. The levelling blocks & wedges are made from Siberian Larch.
How is the timber treated?
The timber is pressure treated with an E.C. approved system called Tanalith E which will prevent rot for at least 15 years. The deck boards are then treated with a decorative coating of Ronseal Decking Oil, Natural Cedar.
What colours are available in the Vermont range?

Vermont ready to fit Decking is available in Natural Cedar.

How suitable is my garden?
Vermont ready to fit decking is ideal for gardens that are relatively flat. If the slope in your garden is up to 24cm (10”) than you can use Vermont decking and using the Blocks & Wedge levelling system you can support the subframe to ensure that your deck is level.
The slope in my garden is greater than 24cm – can I use Vermont ready to fit Decking?
No, not without taking other steps to level the garden. The Vermont levelling Block & Wedge system allows you raise the deck 24cm only.
In all situations you should • Choose a firm, relatively flat area
• Choose an area with easy, safe access
• Choose a well drained area
Can I cut the panels to fit my garden area?
We don’t recommend you cut the panels as this will reduce the structural strength of the panels. It is possible to cut the 2m and 1m single boards. The easiest way to fill awkward gaps is to use decorative stone, bark or planting. Alternatively you can use the Vermont infill bracket and boards.
How do I need to prepare my garden?
If your garden is relatively flat the Vermont system is ideal for it. There is very little preparation work involved as we recommend that you level the deck and not the garden. If you are laying the deck on grass or soil we recommend that you first lay out a weed control fabric (available in all Woodie’s DIY stores nationwide). Applying a weed killer is also a good tip before laying the deck.
Tools – What tools do I need?
You only need to use 3 tools – a Philip’s screwdriver, ideally a powered model with No. 2 head, a 13mm spanner or a 13mm socket & wrench, and a spirit level.
Care & Maintenance
Your Vermont ready to fit deck is pressure treated and is protected for at least 15 years. The decorative finish has been achieved using Ronseal Decking Oil, Natural Cedar. To maintain this finish we recommend that the coating is inspected on an annual basis and recoated as appropriate. The frequency with which it must be applied depends on the location of your deck, the weather itself and the foot traffic/usage of the deck.
How do I clean my decking of mould and fungal growth?
Ronseal Decking Cleaner, available in all Woodie's DIY stores nationwide.
Can you recommend any deck fitters?
Vermont ready to fit decking is a DIY system so we do not supply a list of deck fitters. You could try your local edition of Golden Pages or search the internet.
